There’s a special trust if you’re cryonically frozen

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2019 | Estate Planning

Do you think that being cryonically frozen sounds like something out of a science fiction movie? While it does feature prominently in such forms, it is also a very real procedure. You can have your body frozen when you pass away, with the idea that you can then be reincarnated at some later date.

In fact, it may be a bit more common than you realized. Thus far, around 1,500 people have made future plans to be frozen when they die, and about 400 people have already done it. One of the most famous is Ted Williams, the baseball player.

If you decide that it’s something you’re interested in doing, your first question may be exactly how you’d live the second time around. Say that science evolves to the point that they can bring you back. You show up with nothing. No money. No assets. No real estate.

Fortunately for you, there are special trusts designed to address this issue. They are called future income trusts or revival trusts. You can put your assets and money into the trust to save it for yourself — just the way you’d put that money aside for a younger heir at a specific age. It’s just for you the second time around.

Now, you may be thinking that you would never need this, and you may be right. Most people won’t. But what this really illustrates is a much bigger point: There are an incredible amount of trusts, and they are all very versatile. No matter what you need to do, it pays to look into all of your options.
