Why you should actually love estate planning

On Behalf of | Jun 12, 2020 | Estate Planning

People often neglect their estate planning because they essentially do not want to do it. It does not sound simple, it feels overwhelming, they don’t like doing paperwork and it feels like an obligation, not something they’re excited about. And so they put it off for another day, and another, and another.

But you should actually love estate planning, and here’s why: It protects your children. It is one of the best things you can do for your heirs. It gives them stability, protection and insulation from family drama. You should love giving them that type of gift.

If those children are minors, your estate plan literally protects them by setting up a guardian to take over if you are incapacitated or if you pass away. You know they’ll have a safe, healthy home where they are deeply loved. That’s what you have always wanted for them, and your estate plan sets it up.

But even if they’re not minors, an estate plan helps in so many ways. It can reduce the amount of taxes they have to pay. It takes stress off of them at a very stressful time. It makes it so that they have a clear plan and will not get into disputes with family members. The list goes on. Your estate plan dramatically impacts their lives in so many ways.

All you have to do to give them this gift is to make your plan in advance. If it feels complicated, just focus on what it can provide. Then consider working with an experienced legal team to get it done.
